April 28 marks the National Day of Mourning in Canada. It commemorates workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace related hazards and incidents.


1792: France invades the Austrian Netherlands (present day Belgium and Luxembourg), beginning the French Revolutionary Wars.

1967: Protesting the American War in Vietnam, Muhammad Ali refuses his induction into the U.S. Army. He is subsequently stripped of his championship and license.

1996: The Winnipeg Jets play their final game as a team, and are eliminated from the playoffs, losing to the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. The team was moved to Phoenix, Arizona and played as the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1996-97 season. After a 15 year absence, the Atlanta Thrashers relocate to Winnipeg to reestablish Jets in 2011.
