La Journée internationale de la Francophonie is observed every March 20 every year to celebrate the French language and Francophone culture.

International Francophonie Day provides an opportunity for French speakers around the world to celebrate and promote la langue française in all its diversity. More than 1,500 events across 70 countries are taking place to celebrate during the French Language and Francophonie Week (March 17-25).

French is the second-most-studied language in the world. It is the second-most-important language of international news, the third-most-important in the business world, and the fourth-most-used language on the Internet.

French is cool too. Shared by 274 million people worldwide, the fifth-most-spoken language on the planet, French, along with English, is the only language spoken on all five continents.
