I try for once a week, but it’s more accurate to say that every so often I send out an email newsletter with notes from the week. It’s my view of what I saw and thought was interesting, ๐Ÿ˜ฎ as I try to make sense of what’s going on.

๐Ÿ—’ Opinion

ยป I was saddened last night, before I went to bed, to learn of another mass killing in the USA. This time at a Walmart in El Passo, Texas. The shooter took 20 lives before he was stopped. I wasn’t surprised to later learn that, yet again, this act of terror was perpetuated by an American born white supremacist who drove 9 hours towards the southern border, so he could target Mexicans who were known to shop at this store.

But the nightmare continued after I woke up this morning and learned of yet another mass killing, this one in Dayton, Ohio. This time, another nine innocent lives were taken prematurely, and yes, by yet another white, angry, American terrorist.

There’s a lot of hatred in the USA today. There’s a lot of angry white American men with guns who dislike anyone that doesn’t look like them. And government leaders, particularly those who call themselves conservatives, from the President on down, are failing America, are failing the idea of America, are failing Americans, as they continue to do very little, and mostly nothing, to stop these killings. The evidence is clear. Facts speak for themselves. Thoughts and prayers are not nearly enough! The situation is getting worst

It’s not hyperbole to state there is a gun violence epidemic in the USA today. Nearly 40,000 lives were taken by gun violence in America last year. America has more guns (393 million) than people (327 million). Ohio was their 250th mass killing this year. This year! There are still 5 months left in the year! Today, August 4th, is the 216th day of the year. So there’s been, on average, more than one mass killing a day this year so far. How fucken ridiculous is it to allow this to happen over and over and over again and do nothing to prevent it from happening again. To not even try. To refuse to even discuss it.

โ€œThis attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. โ€ฆ If we can get rid of enough people our own way of life can be more sustainable,โ€ wrote the 21-year-old white Texan terrorist in a manifesto he published hours before the committed the killings. These are also racist, hate-filled words and themes of the 45th U.S. President. And he makes no apology for them. Motivated by popularity, he claims people love it. This is the man that started his walk towards the presidency by calling Mexicans rapists and criminals.

Conservative politicians in the U.S.A. actively incite violence and fan the flames under those gun-toting hate-filled angry cracked heads. Consequently, most everyone in the USA today is living in fear. Americans fear going to Walmart, to the movie theatre, to the coffee shop, to food festivals, to a bar or nightclub, to a concert, to a church or synagogue, to college, to school. No one feels safe anymore.

To do nothing to stop these mass killings is to sanction them. It’s that simple. Those politicians who do nothing are complicit in the murders of each man, woman, and child that lost their lives to these terrorist attacks. Why are these politicians not taking any action except offering “thoughts and prayers”? There can be only one reason. This is exactly what they want.
